What to Expect
Activity Level
This is going to be an adventure so there will be a moderate amount of activity involved. Participants should be able to walk a few miles over the course of the day and do some very mild hiking. At times it may be necessary to carry your own luggage for up to four minutes. Some days there will be a lot of walking and other days very little.
Accommodation
Accommodations will be hotels with private rooms. Single guests who book a place on the tour without paying for the private room addition will be placed with someone else from the tour. This can be a great way to make friends. In general the hotels will range from rustic to hip depending on location and availability.
What’s Included
All accommodation and transportation is included. On top of that certain excursions are included with the trip, these include but are not limited to: Petrified Waterfall, Mezcal Distillery Tour, Monte Alban Ruins, and Bioluminescent Lagoon Tour.
What else?
Wifi will be available at all properties and cell reception is available in most but not all areas. Laundry service will be available from day 4 of the trip.
Take out lots of cash the first day. ATMs are available in most locations but can charge high rates or be hard to get to. Oaxaca city has plenty of reliable ATMs. If you prefer, there are also places to exchange cash.
What to Pack
Athletic or hiking shoes, sandals, shorts, t shirts, swimwear, one pair long sleeve pants, one sweater, sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, bag for wet/dirty clothes. Part of the trip will be in the cool mountain air and part will be on tropical beaches. It is highly recommended to pack everything in a backpack. Roller suitcases can be managed but are not recommended.
What’s NOT included
Personal travel insurance, meals, souvenirs, tips, and transportation outside of scheduled activities.
The baby sea turtle release ($12) Bioluminescent Lagoon tour ($20) and dolphin cruise ($30) costs are not included in the tour.
